Lahaina Day = Day of Indulgence

Friday - We planned to leave the house at 10am to head over to Lahaina. We saw surfers, snorklers, and paddle boarders in the ocean on our way to the west side. Our goal: Hula Grill for lunch.

We walked around Whalers Village for a bit before making the momentous decision of sitting in the sand, flagstone, or covered area of the restaurant. We sat in the sand and looked over the ocean, watching the boats and parasailers in the spot where one can see both Lanai and Molokai. We had tropical drinks, tasty BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, and some of their Heineken beer battered fish.

DirtBoy, who apparently can’t be without his Blackberry, had a meeting at 1:30pm and wanted to be strategically located near the water, where the other members at the meeting could hear waves breaking in the background, and where he could sit comfortably in the shade where it was cool. He was asked to “mute” his phone; the crashing surf was too distracting . LOL!

The four of us met the Upstairs Neighbors and their guests at Kimo’s at 4pm before heading out for an evening at Warren and Annabelle’s. The dangerous thing about arriving early to Kimo’s is one needs to “occupy” a table while waiting for others, which means ordering tropical drinks. I don’t know why it took so long to come up with the “collecting” idea but Mrs. DirtBoy took to placing paper umbrellas in the band of her hat. Not from only her drinks but from others' drinks as well. She collected two at Hula Grill and four at Kimo's.

Before the Warren and Annabelle show begins, they serve drinks and dinner. Mrs. DirtBoy, whose favorite drink earlier in the afternoon was a margarita, changed her mind. Now a Lavaflow was her favorite. But after observing a group of women with poofy pink drinks, she wanted to know/try one of those. Now the Haleakala Heaven is her favorite. Just imagine a strawberry milkshake with a splash of dark rum. Basically it was dessert.

Then came dinner of chicken teriyaki, pulled pork spring roll, coconut prawns, and crab cake. For dessert we had Death by Chocolate, Death by Cheesecake, and the Best Ever Crème Brulee. Mrs. DirtBoy, with the help of our Upstairs Neighbors and their guests, collected six more paper umbrellas which brings her total to 11.

The magic show was spectacular. Warren had us rolling with laughter and amazed us with his slight-of-hand (again, most of us had already seen his show). Even when we knew what was coming, we were still astounded. This is highly recommended if you ever come to Maui. You must make reservations a month or so before you arrive because it is sold out weeks ahead of time. There’s just no way you could walk in off the street for the show. And just as a reminder, you’ll need a coat and long pants, if you have ‘em, and for some people gloves and socks. They keep the dining room and theater at arctic levels. It’s really a difficult concept to believe but it is true.

We got home after nine and were all ready for Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . .
